Under threatening skies, a long awaited opportunity to get the annual close season grass seeding completed on all the playing surfaces.

It's ironic that after the extreme wet conditions of the winter when a great amount of damage was done to the pitches we have been held up by drought. Not for a long time have the pitches looked so bare and across local rugby the groundsmen have stopped matches taking place. Roni continued to make pitches available for most games only stepping in when safety was threatened. A few training sessions had to be cancelled and the assistance in coaches looking for alternative venues was appreciated and much needed. He could only do that safe in the knowledge that the amount of work he tends on the ground plus our tried and tested close season programme of maintenance would reinstate the grass to our expected high standards. This year all the juniors returning to train at the Club plus the elder mini age groups put even more pressure on pitch management and it is testament to the Club’s long-standing policy of sparing no expense on pitch care that they held up so well. We spend in excess of £8k per year on this alone.

So, the pitches will be ready whenever that will be but please remember the ground is currently closed to everyone until at least the end of June and there can be no exceptions.

The Board are continually monitoring government advice on returning to training in conjunction with the RFU and we will keep you all posted on any developments.

In the meantime you can come and play your part in the ‘Paviors Family Force’ initiative by contacting me on WhatsApp on 07817 105590. It continues to get great support and tomorrow is First Team Wednesday when skipper Doug will be up there with players and families, social distancing and cracking on. Don’t be left out in making your Club better.
