PAVS VIM TOO VIGOROUS FOR SOUTH

This weekend Pavs travelled to South Leicester RFC in round six of the Midlands Premier competition. Despite, South’s current situation there was obvious commitment in their approach as kick off approached and in the early moments of the game. Having said this, speedy wing Alex Barton ran in a brace of tries in the opening fifteen minutes to give Pavs a 14-0 lead with the Billam extras. As Pavs grew into the game South continued to offer stout resistance, but additional scores seemed inevitable. In the next twenty minutes Pavs ran in seven tries with a mix of forwards and backs crossing the line. Hooker Kieran Wells powered in for two tries with Eggleshaw, Billam D, Molyneux and Winning all extending the lead. The final try of the half was scored by young and quickly maturing prop Lochlan Dudley who “sprinted” a full twenty two metres before diving over. With the boot of George Billam in top form Pavs went into the break 63-0 up.

Following the break, and almost immediately after the kick off Matt Molyneux finished off a fine move to go in for his second to extend Pavs lead to 68-0. In the next fifteen minutes Eggleshaw went over for his second and Barton for his third and fourth. With Billam G adding the extras Pavs lead extended to 87-0. For their part South continued to battle away giving all that they had for the cause. On sixty nine minutes young fly half replacement George Leeson scored his first try for the 1st xv following a long range kick by scrum half Jonty Green and minutes later it was Green himself who scooted in to take Pavs to 99-0 with Billam G’s kicking performance proving itself to be almost faultless. With five minutes left full back Molyneux ran in for his third and Pavs sixteenth try. As full time approached Barton went in for his fifth try of the game. Skipper Doug Billam finished off affairs with his second and brother George put over his sixteenth conversion to give Pavs the win 120-0.

Whilst the score would seem overwhelming, it was important that Pavs should play with discipline, structure and control. They achieved this with almost faultless precision,“keeping on the shovel” right until the final whistle. South kept their heads up for most of the game and one can only wish them the best of fortune as the strive to rebuild a club with a long history. Next week 19th October take on Peterborough Lions. As it is Vice President’s Day it is sure to be busy.  The support for the team has been excellent this term. The boys and coaching staff much appreciate it and look forward to more of it this week. Onwards ………………………
