With Nat West Rugby Force already pushed back to today we decided to opt for a staggered approach as working to social distancing rules in the confined spaces of the clubhouse and changing rooms presents problems. So our normal busy and active day had to be scaled back to ensure safety.
Today the First XV tackled some outdoor work and painted the cabins as well as moving materials around to empty a storage container. The work on making a kit and equipment storage area providing secure storage for each team can now start.
The Board were well represented as new President Neil Kendrick and recently appointed Club/Company Secretary Chris Eggelshaw joined me in preparing for the much welcome return of Mini Rugby tomorrow. Mini Chair Clare Raine and Mini Director of Rugby Mark Bailey, he also did some painting, were also on hand to make sure everything was safely prepared for tomorrows Registration Day. Di also put up some new team photographs, check out the one near the big screen to see how teams develop, and she also kindly prepared some breakfast rolls for the volunteers which went down well and very quickly.
Since the suspension of all rugby in mid-March the only question is when will rugby get back to normal? We are steadily making progress along the RFU Roadmap and recent relaxations have been welcome and will greatly benefit mini rugby. When we can play our game as we want to is still unknown but much is going into achieving that. The other concern which has occupied the Board throughout this time is our financial stability. We have to accept that in the commercial world that prevails sponsorship income will be greatly reduced so it is so reassuring that a band of our long-term supporters have remained on board throughout the past 6 months and will continue to do so. We are indebted to Broddell Joinery, CF Storage, Corner House, Hall-Fast, Stirland Paterson and Westville for their commitment that has helped us hugely. They are more than just sponsors, they provide the fuel that drives us forward and we know and appreciate that and you.
Also a big thank you to Nat West for their continued support and our next day will be Saturday 19th September when all our other sides can follow the First Teams lead and help improve us. Love to hear from you but we will be in touch.
