Having rightly called a halt to the rugby season in March the RFU have now published the final league positions of the season and their methodology in arriving there.

It sees Paviors remaining in the elite Midlands Premier division for a second season. Whilst that is great news there is also the feeling amongst the coaches and players that had the season run it’s course our position could well have been improved.

Nathan says;

‘The biggest thing for me is proving everyone wrong and showing you don’t need money to compete. The incredible hard work put in by the players makes the changing room an unreal place to be and the comradery is exceptional. Never has ‘Playing for the Shirt” been more evident and it is all down to the Club and the ethos that comes from the top.

We can’t wait for next season and the new challenge’.

So next season sees Scunthorpe, Syston, Oundle and Dudley Kingswinford joining the league while we have lost promoted Bournville, Peterborough Lions and Kettering, good luck to them next season.

EXPLANATION

The final league positions in the 2019-20 season have been determined by awarding league points outstanding matches based on their home and away playing record in fixtures played up to the cancellation of the 2019-20 season (fixtures up to the 14th March).

METHODOLOGY DETAIL

The methodology uses a team’s average points per game total for home and away fixtures completed.  This average is then applied to all outstanding fixtures and added to a team’s league points total achieved in games up to the 14th March to determine their final league position.  If two or more clubs have the same number of league points, final league positions will be determined firstly by the number of wins achieved, then draws, each as a percentage of the number of games actually played, and then on the basis of league points difference as a percentage of the number of matches played up to the cancellation of the 2019-20 season.  The play-off winner shall be determined by which of the two clubs had the better percentage record in its respective league by taking the number of league points gained as a percentage of the maximum number of leagues points it was possible to gain in the final table.

METHODOLOGY EXAMPLE-TEAM

Team A achieved 40 points in 10 home fixtures – giving them a home average of 4 points (40/10) per game.

They achieved 20 points in 8 away fixtures.  This gave them an away average of 2.5 points (20/8) per game.  Team A had one home fixture and two fixtures to still be played.  Based on their home and away points per game averages they were awarded an additional 9 points to their overall league standing.
