It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Dr Alex Macdonald passed away at the City Hospital on Friday 22ndOctober.

Alex goes back a long way with Paviors having played prop forward since the mid 1990s at First Team level continuing to pass on his skill and wisdom to the lower sides until only a couple of years ago. On the pitch he never took a step back whether representing the Firsts or the Thirds but should an injury occur he was quick to step in and sooth players from either side. He played at Harlequins in his early years and came to Paviors as a formidable scummager hardened by that experience. His bedside manner and rugby aggression couldn’t have been further apart but both wonderfully appropriate, a true upholder of rugby values. However, he wasn’t always spot on with his prognosis, once telling Bob Ratcliffe he had a twisted ankle which turned out to be a broken leg!! It was the start of a great friendship.

Alex was a man of many parts and was a much loved and respected doctor in the Belvoir Health Practice and the people of Rushcliffe share our loss of a fine and kind gentleman.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.

At the moment we do not know the funeral arrangements other than due to the size of the church entrance will be by invitation only. The family are hoping to make other arrangements for the many who will want to pay their respects and we will keep you informed.
