Dave ‘Robbo’ Robinson has left us and for his Family and Paviors the gap that leaves in our lives is seemingly unsurmountable. He has played a huge role at the Rugby Club since those early days in 1990 when He came to Burntstump for the first time when the Minis started and a week later was involved, He remained involved like few others until just a few short weeks ago. That involvement was often below the radar but it was with full commitment, dedication and with a unique caring feel for all those who he helped. Robbo went all the way through to Senior level with his son Ian, who he proudly watched playing for the First XV but when most would have said enough is enough and look forward to a quiet Sunday he jumped back in. He helped ailing age groups to the benefit of Coaches, Players and Parent alike and they were able to enjoy the improvements he brought. Never would he raise his voice, but he got his message home and respect from the players he nurtured over the years abounds. The annual Presentation Evenings were given new meaning by Dave, no one will forget how He had all the team whether when they were Under 7 or Under 18 sat on the floor around him, transfixed while he delivered his end of season report with wit and originality and it was all about the players. He became more involved and gradually took on the Club Coach Coordinator role, a position that we had forgotten the importance of. From nowhere and with great patience He turned the job round and today it is again a position that adds great benefit to Paviors and particularly our many younger players and their coaches. His efforts didn’t go unrecognised and he became a Vice President and would surely have been a potential President of the future. He also received the Club’s highest accolade when 12 months ago he was presented with The Hudson Evans Award for long and outstanding service to Paviors. Never was it more deserved,
All of the many who knew Dave will have their own stories to tell about Him but I suspect what will run through them all will be his kindness, ability to listen and solve issues quietly without fuss and His integrity that set Him apart from so many.
Phil Molyneux and myself visited him a few days ago and all he wanted to know was how the Club was doing despite his condition. For me his bravery in the face of all that was being thrown at him was uplifting and I left humbled but proud to know such a man and I’m sure that sentiment will be felt by all who have been fortunate to know Robbo.
Paviors extend their deepest sympathy to Dave’s wife Rita, sons Stuart & Ian and their families. You have lost someone special and a man who has enriched others by his selfless work and like you we are very proud of him and he will be missed.
