Another Paviors U15’s Girl Called up to East Midland Squad (19-04-08)

On the 16th March the East Midland Squad traveled to Slough to play Thames Valley in a Regional match. With four girls from Paviors already in the squad, the East Midlands found themselves short of a prop for this game. The coaches asked if Paviors could provide and without hesitation we sent Alex Penniecook a long to help support the team. Alex in her first regional match and not having trained with the squad, gave an outstanding display of rugby. The Regional coaches were that impressed that they have now asked Alex to join the regional squad making 5 x Paviors Girls in the Squad of 20. Well Done Alex.

At one stage we had 4 of the 5 girls on the park for the Regional team (can’t wait till all 5 get on in one go) to help the East Midlands win their second match. Which is two more than last year. Final Result: -

East Midlands 20 (1st Regional try for Olivia Bell)            Thames Valley 5

Semi-Finalist meets Finalist

Catrin, of the U15s Girls squad that reached the National Cup Semi-Finals, meets Ospreys stars James Hook and Justin Marshall, who have reached the EDF Finals again this season. James was also a part of the Grand Slam winning Wales side.

The Eagles Are Landing at BurntStump.

On Wednesday April 2nd, Paviors RFC will play host to the "USA Eagles International Under 19 Touring Team" that is due to play the NLD Under 20's. The match will be under floodlights and Kick Off will be at 7.30 p.m.

It is believed that this will be the very first time in the club's history that an International Team will have the privilege of playing at "The Stump" and it should be quite an occasion.

All Paviors members are welcome to attend what should be an entertaining evening, with the NLD hopefully containing a number of our own "home grown" Paviors players. The bar will be open as usual and it would be a good time to bring all your family and friends along!

Mark Britton

Former Pavior Selected for Scotland.

Alex Black

A former Pavior, Alex BLACK has been selected to the Scotland U18 squad.Alex began playing his mini rugby at The Ron Rossin ground in 1996 at the age of 6, under the watchful eye of coach Bob Ratcliffe. He captained the victorious Paviors U9's at Twickenham in the Scottish Amicable Bowl competition in May 1999, before moving up to North Yorkshire in 2000.

Alex is a member of the Leeds Carnegie Rugby Academy and plays his club rugby at Ripon RUFC, where in November 2007, two Paviors paid them a visit, George Billam and Richard Laplanche. They made guest appearances for Ripon's 3rd team playing with Alex against Skipton. Towards the end of the game George having been replaced by Ripon was brought back on again playing for Skipton no less! Such is the spirit of rugby! A good night out was had by all....apparently! It's still the talk of the clubhouse by Rabbit & Co!

This season Alex, (a 6th form pupil at Prince Henry's Grammar School, Otley) has captained the Yorkshire U18 and the Scottish Exiles U18 teams. He was selected to the North of England Squad but chose the Scotland route having been selected last season to the Scotland U17's.

Alex has played at Scrum Half in all of the first 3 of the Scotland U18's fixtures so far this season, the first was a friendly warm-up match against the England AER squad, the second match was a full international against Italy and therefore he has been awarded his first cap for his country.

The results of the first 3 matches are as follows:-
Scotland U18  25   v   England U18 AER  8    @ Melrose on 2nd March 08
Scotland U18  14   v   Italy U18  5                  @ Kelso on 9th March 08
Wales U18      24   v   Scotland U18  0           @ Aberavon on 16th March 08

On Easter Monday the Squad flew out to Ireland to play in the U18 Six Nations Rugby Festival in Cork which runs from 25th March - 1st April where they play 3 games:-
Scotland U18 v France U18    on 26th March 08
Scotland U18 v Ireland U18    on 29th March 08
ScotlandU18  v England U18  on 1st April 08

Alex's family would like to give thanks to their friends Kim and Dave Hoskins (stalwarts of Paviors RFC) for coming along to show their support for Alex in the match Scotland v Italy at Kelso, whilst maintaining their unstinting devotion to English rugby!

Alex's father Lawrence (former Paviors coach and Fat Boy team member) and I are looking forward to supporting Alex and the Scotland U18 team out in Cork together with our dear friends, the Laplanche family, who are all flying out to support Alex and help us with our Guinness drinking challenge!

A moment of reflection.......In January 2000, in a crowded Paviors clubhouse at the Burns Night celebrations, a 9 year old kilted boy stood before 120 seated diners and quoted a Robert Burns poem verbatim 'My Heart is in the Highlands' Phil Molyneaux was heard to say 'He's one to watch for the future'......... how right you were Phil. Paviors can be proud to have played a very important part in Alex's early rugby development and we thank everyone involved who have helped along the way and for their continuing support.

On that note, any chance of an invitation for Alex to play at the end of the season at Pavs? I know that he would love to come back and play at Nottingham with some of his old pals like Dan Pickersgill etc.....
and by the way....... Happy 50th Birthday to Pat Billiam, I know it's some time towards the end of March!    Hope I've not let the cat out the bag!

Sending our kind regards to all that know us at Paviors RFC and best wishes for the rest of the season.
Karen Black,
Proud Mum

U7s win Sheild at Loughborough Festival
Congratulations to our U7 side as they won the Shield at their first ever festival. They played 5 games, won 3, drew 1 & lost 1 (6 tries to 4), and came joint 1st on 7 points. It all rested on try countback, but they had scored  2 less than Loughborough A and ended up as shield winners.

Girls U15 Reach Semi-Final of National Cup (24-Feb-08)
As we have said many times, this is the first season for Paviors U15's Girls and as they train hard and play games they continue to impress not only the Coaching staff but other clubs as well.
Sunday saw them in the 1st round of the National Competition, this is a league format for each area and we came under the whole of the Midlands region. With 3 x games to play in the one day we started of by playing Sleaford the team we had played the week before in a friendly and won.

This was a different matter and Sleaford had strengthened their team with players from Goole and Newark. This didn't stop the girls hard work and with good defence we held them out an scoring our own tries making it 15 - 0 to Paviors at full time.

The second game saw them against Burfield with well over half their side playing for the West Midlands Regional team it was going to be a hard game. The girls played fantastic and no one on the touch line could believe the pressure we put them under and camped nearly the whole game in their 22 with out scoring. However the Final whistle went and we drew 0 - 0.

Onto the final game saw us up against Oundle a team made up of Kettering and other clubs with 5 x East Midland Players and 4 West Midland players in the side. We started well and was soon on the score board, with us keeping an eye on the other game we new we had to win by a big score as Burfield ran tries in against Sleaford on the pitch to our side. The girls continued the pressure and we came out on top winning 26 - 0.

The whole day had been long and tiring but the girls played outstanding not conceding one try against them in the whole tournament.

So onto the final scores both Paviors and Burfield had WON 2 and DRAWN 1, it was all down to the try count PAVIORs 7 - Burfield 5. So PAVIORs win the league and go forward to the Semi-final as the Midland Champions to be played on the 30th March 2008. We will keep you all informed of their progress.

Paviors U15s Girls Represent the East Midlands

Paviors U15’s Girls (L to R: Olivia Bell, Samantha Green, Jenny Maxwell, Bethany James) played a big part in the East Midlands win over the North West 26 -7 on Sunday 10th February 2008 at Melton Mowbray. This was the first time the U15’s had beaten the North West for over 2 years. All four girls played outstanding and helped them successfully defeat the North West:

This was a clean sweep for all the East Midlands Girls Sides, the Seniors winning 21 -14 with help from an old Paviors girl and Coach at Paviors Cathy Burke. The U18’s were comfortable winners, winning 55 – 5 with outstanding Performances from Paviors Girls Hannah Walker – Smart (Captain for the day) Fran Eggleshaw (Forwards captain) and Holly Blackhurst.

The next round for the East Midlands sees the Seniors Play the South West (Away) on Sunday 9th March 2008, and the U15’s & U18’s Play Thames Valley (Away) on Sunday 16th March 2008. We wish all the Paviors Girls well in their success.

Outstanding Senior Membership

Please find attached a list of members who to date have not paid their Senior Club Membership. This is in spite of personal requests and website announcements.
This money is now 5 months overdue and the individuals listed should feel ashamed.
Being a fully paid up member of Paviors RFC is something to be proud of and this list will be a topic of discussion at selection every week from now on.

The All Abthorpe Front Row

Dave, Phil & Mark Abthorpe play together.

At last we have it the "All Abthorpe Front Row" as it came together for the 2nd XV clash with Newark on Jan 26th 2008. And what a site it was to behold! All three brothers playing for the same team and for once not quarelling amongst themselves.

All were sired by father John. In a world where front row players are like "Gold Dust" we at Paviors RFC are fortunate to have got our own "Front Row Breeding Stallion" John Abthorpe. When others can only but dream of being able to produce just one single member of the front row union he's there knocking them out by the dozen. Well it's only right that we should say a "Big Thanks" to Stallion John and "Keep Up The Good Work"!

We congratulate Bethany James, Jenny Maxwell, Olivia Bell and Samantha Green all Paviors Girls on been selected into the squad of 25. This is a great achievement in their first season of girls rugby and we wish them all the best for the future.

We now await the confirmation of the Girls U18's Squad for the East Midlands in which we hope to have at least another 4 x Paviors Girls selected.

Two Rugby Legends (22-1-08)

Mark Britton on Holiday with Jonathan Davis

Here I am on holiday with Jonathan. (I've just got my round in as it was fully inclusive).Jonathan was a Welsh dual code international, voted the Players Player two years in succession in rugby league and was one of the greatest talents ever to grace the field of rugby union. For more information go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Davies. Apart from that he was a really nice bloke. Beat that Graham!

All Australian Rugby Players Beware
(20-1-08)
If you are a famous Australian Rugby Player beware! Our top agent and stalker Graham Turner has been let loose and is on your continent. Like the "Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town" he will suddenly jump out from behind a bush or bin and ask if he can take a photo of himself with you. Within hours of arriving here he is below pictured with his first victim. Matt Giteau, which is very appropriate for this very "sad gitto".

If you have any photos of yourself, especially in uncompromising positions, with famous rugby players you can e mail them to the  markbritton.paviorsrfc@hotmail.co.uk or send them by phone message to 07772 464073 . We'll then post them on the web.

Luke Wilmott Selected For Midlands (20-1-08).

Luke Willmott
We would like to congratulate Luke Wilmott, last years under 17 Captain, for being selected to play for the Midlands Under 18's over the Xmas period as part of the England Final Trial selection process. Luke represented Paviors RFC in all of the representation games playing for the Midlands against, the North, The South and South West and the South East. The experience and exposure that this has given Luke will be invaluable and we wish him all the best with his involvement in both Notts Academy and all his other representative rugby.

Michael Perry Off to Fiji.(20-1-08)

Michael Perry
Michael Perry has today left us on some bizarre escapade to Fiji. Michael was last seasons's Colts Captain and has been heavily involved with both the Senior Youth and the Senior Club set-up for the last two seasons, having come through the ranks as a mini and junior player.
We have discussed at some length why anybody should ever want to go to Fiji when Burnstump beckons.

Borat Xmas Visit to Paviors(20-1-08)

Borat
For those of you who weren't aware, over the Xmas period Paviors RFC had a flying visit from the world famous Borat Sagdiyev (alias Sacha Baron Cohen). He was heard to say "I lika very much the rugby. It's a like wrestle with naked man in Kazakhstan".
By contrast below we show you a snap from the "2007 Darius Faitakis Holiday Album" which shows Darius about to embark on his own holiday wrestling antics.

PAVIORS GIRLS U15's SELECTED FOR REGIONAL TRIALS

Since Paviors started to get the U15's girls team up and running again after a few season without one. The girls hard work has paid off. The team only started playing and training in September 07 and have so far drawn 1 and lost 1 to two well established girls sides. Many of our girls have never played contact rugby before and some have never played in a game situation . We have also had 3 x Girls selected for the NLD U15's A Squad and 8 x girls selected for the NLD B Squad. Also 1 x Girl Selected for the Leicestershire County Squad.

Following their hard work at County level we now have 4 x Girls selected to go forward for Regional Trials on Sunday 20th Jan 08 at Melton Mowbray: Bethany James; Jenny Maxwell (via Leicestershire County Team) Olivia Bell and Samantha Green. We wish them all the best and know they will do Paviors proud no matter what then outcome. (we will keep you informed of their progress).

Gregg Robinson Injury (9-1-07)

"Geordie" Gregg Robinson, a familiar face in Paviors 2nd XV, accidently broke his leg and ankle on Saturday 5th January playing for his home club's 1st XV in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Gregg has been with Paviors for almost 4 years since he arrived at Nottingham Trent University to study Surveying.

Gregg was due to undergo surgery today to have pins fitted and said "He is unlikely to be unavailable for selection until the beginning of next season". We would all like to wish him well in his recovery and look forward to seeing him back up at the club as a spectator in the coming weeks.

It reminds of that old favourite "The Leg on the Tyne is all mine all mine, the Leg on the Tyne is all mine..."

Festive Cheer For The Seniors 5-1-08

Paviors 1st's took on their Matlock counterparts at Burntstump on Saturday (Dec 29th), and after a roller coaster ride of a season, they at least enter the new year with several shoots of optimism.

Although the game itself had a festive feel to it as both sides showed several changes from their league game 3 weeks earlier, Pavs team featured the names of 3 key figures who are returning from injury, together with a debut 1st XV start from promising youngster Dan Pickersgill.

The return of talismanic Tom Studholme (after nearly three years out injured), Steve Allen and Gaz Briggs, together with the form of Pickersgill, should give the 1st's a much needed boost ahead of the resumption of their league campaign.

The game finished with Pavs victory, 24-5, thanks to tries from Allott, Studholme, Charity, and Hill, plus 2 conversions from Graney.

U11s and U12s Qualify for NLD Cup Festival in April 2008
Congratulations to the U11s and U12s teams who both qualified last Sunday for the NLD cup competition.  The U11s also came top overall so are the champions of Nottinghamshire.

Cheeky One From Mr December !

Here is the photographic evidence that was used in court to dismiss Simon Stirland from work for sticking his "John Thomas" in the Print Finisher.
The judge at court said "Yes but what have you done with the Print Finisher".
And Simon replied "Well they had to sack her as well."

Anyway please contact Stirland Patterson for all your "lightly -brushed" 2008 New Year Diaries and Calendars .

SUPPORT FROM NEW SPONSOR

Paviors RFC are delighted to welcome Symphony Windows, Doors & Conservatories Ltd as a Premium Sponsor of the Club.

Although based in Norfolk Managing Director Nick Coupe has strong links with Nottingham and he recently watched England’s valiant effort to win the World Cup up at the Club. He and his partner are both ‘Rugby Men’ and only committed themselves to Paviors on the back of our strong tradition of upholding the traditional values of this wonderful game.

Below is a little information about the company. You can learn more by visiting their web site at www.symphonywindows.com

Symphony Windows Limited was formed in 1998 and we have built our success around the philosophy of being flexible to respond to clients needs, together with an enlightened approach to problem solving.
We pride ourselves on completing projects quickly, efficiently and to a high standard of workmanship, which combined with a non-adversarial approach, ensures each scheme is completed on time, within budget and in a manner that turns the whole process into a rewarding experience for all concerned.

Now considered a large commercial installation operation, often installing in excess of five hundred frames a week, it has been essential that all areas of the business have been able to cope with this expansion and for that reason the company sought and gained total quality service backed by BS EN ISO 9001:2001 accreditation. Couple this with our excellent safety record, together with a reliable, pro-active and motivated approach to work as can be expected of a forward thinking company.

As you would expect, a company listed  on so many local authority approved lists would need to prove and demonstrate its ability to undertake projects within its field and for this reason Symphony secured registration within Constructionline, created and owned by the Department of the Environment, Transport, and the regions.  Following the introduction of part L to the building regulations upgrade, Symphony became a member of FENSA, which enables us to offer our client base the ability to self-certify compliance without the need to obtain building regulations approval. In addition we are included in EXOR listings, a Government body which vets window installers for their capabilities. More recently we have gained the British Standard for fitting/installation of windows and now carry the quality assured Kitemark.

Symphony is proud of the safety track record within the company, which has been brought about by a broad knowledge within the company, supported by an external consultancy that oversee any anomalies which may occur on site. Our workforce is kept fully appraised of risks on site, and any changes to working methods and practical guidelines.

Our thanks to them and to Simon Stirland for brokering this latest sponsorship deal.

Paviors Girl Comes Good
In our First season of Girls U15's rugby we have attracted talent from all area's of the county, one of them is Jenny Maxwell who played her rugby at Leicester Forest and joined Paviors this season. Jenny is a great asset to the squad, already selected for the Leicestershire County Squad and the East Midlands, Jenny is also a member of the only few girls at the School Of Rugby, which is the highest level they can achieve at this age before going on for England honours.
